| A personal note from the Webmaster | Dear Visitor, I have always enjoyed good art, but there are two artists whose work is invariably a heart-stopping experience for me: Claude Monet and Anders Aldrin. With all due respect to Mr. Monet's greatness, I'd still have to give extra points to Mr. Aldrin. | |
Portrait of Mike (1966) | Aldrin was remarkably versatile. He not only mastered
the medium of oils, but also produced equally
compelling bodies of work in watercolor, pastel, pencil,
acrylics, and even Japanese-style woodblock prints. Not
content to be stuck in one style or technique, his
masterpieces ranged from the realist to the
impressionist to the abstract. Color is the central thesis
in all his work, not merely a device to serve the
painting's style. And while some might have complained
that Monet was overly commercial, the same could
never have been said of Mr. Aldrin. He always remained
the individualist, even though it cost him commercial
success. | |
Portrait of Margaret (1966) | But perhaps I am biased. I was just seven when my
family and I met him in Tokyo. My parents bought many
of his paintings, and so I grew up surrounded by his
works. I even sat for him once as a teenager. My mother
remained a constant friend and confidante until his
death. It a great pleasure for me to be able to put technology to work and create this first World Wide Web site for Anders Aldrin. Over the coming months I plan to enhance and expand these pages, so do come back and visit often. Of course, none of this would be possible without the assistance of Vince Aldrin and others, whose support I gratefully acknowledge. Mike Cromer Ottawa, Ontario March, 1996 | |
